H'Ruk Tak limbered to the top of the boulder, his mechanical limbs ill-adjusted for the climb. His companions lingered below, playing their games of chance. They were completely oblivious to the majestic surroundings their master had brought them to, even though the carved mountains towered above them.
At one time this was a plain, flat and stretching to the horizon. Enormous amounts of bedrock, stone, and rubble were excavated to lay the foundation for the nearby super-city, and heavy machinery carried the debris onto the plain. The construction crews were all manned by AI, and instead of leaving gigantic, faceless cairns next to the city the crews carved their own Buddhist designs into the mountain.
The spot is now the destination for many a robotic pilgrimage. Machines that visit the range claim to be able to hear the stone calling to them, singing of companionship with their inner silicon and mineral interiors.
